Некоторые источники в разведке США и Великобритании, называют, тем не менее, и другие возможные источники происхождения полония-210, которым был убит Литвиненко. В беседе с корреспондентом NEWSWEEK источник примерно передал содержание одной секретной сводки американской разведки. В ней говорилось, что среди прочих рассматривается и версия о том, что против Литвиненко действовали некие офицеры ФСБ, не информировавшие об этом руководство. В качестве одного из подозреваемых называется полумифическая группировка под названием 'Достоинство и честь', в которой якобы состоят бывшие разведчики, по собственной инициативе покушающиеся на противников Кремля.
- То есть речь идет о своеобразных 'отрядах смерти', состоящих из бывших сотрудников КГБ, имеющих опыт войны, разведки и убийств - как в Латинской Америке, - считает Алексей Венедиктов, директор известной радиостанции 'Эхо Москвы' и один из самых информированных людей в российской столице. - В 90-е годы эти люди потеряли все, они считали, что их предали - сначала Ельцин, а затем Путин, - и, начиная примерно с 1998 года, они формировали собственные радикальные военизированные отряды. Их цель - убивать врагов родины. (Одно такое дело, кстати, уже расследуется, хотя непосредственно к подобным организациям ни от одного убийства следы до сих пор не повели).
